Veterinary Laser Therapy in North Hollywood

Drug- & Surgery-Free Pain Relief for Pet Patients

If your pet suffers from pain, whether from prior surgery, degenerative disease, or traumatic injury, then laser therapy may provide the ideal drug- and surgery-free solution to alleviate it. At Sweet Home Veterinary Hospital, we are proud to offer this “wave of the future,” noninvasive pain treatment for companion animals of all types, ages, and sizes.

What Is Laser Therapy for Animals?

Laser therapy has been used successfully for decades and is scientifically proven to treat various medical conditions that result in pain and inflammation. Clinical studies have shown varied and widespread benefits, such as pain and inflammation reduction and the stimulation of nerve cell regeneration that repairs soft tissues.

Pets may benefit from laser therapy if they have one of the following medical conditions:

  • Hip dysplasia
  • Degenerative joint disease
  • Arthritis
  • Stiffness
  • Sprains and strains
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Hot spots
  • Skin infections
  • Ear infections
  • Traumatic injuries such as fractures and puncture wounds

With this type of therapy, the laser light is directed toward the affected area and non-thermal light photons are administered for about 3 to 8 minutes. This process stimulates injured cells and leads to a higher metabolic rate in response to the stimulation, and in turn, leads to a reduction in inflammation, improved circulation, and expedited healing. Many of our pet patients exhibit signs of enjoyment during their laser therapy sessions and some even fall asleep because they are so relaxed. You may notice your pet has increased mobility once they return home from a laser therapy session.

How to Tell if Your Pet Is in Pain

Pets cannot speak, of course, so we as humans must find other ways to detect signs they might be in pain so you can determine whether it’s time to see the vet for a wellness check or inquire about laser therapy.

Tell-tale signs of an animal in pain include:

  • Vocalizations when moving
  • Excessive restlessness
  • Abnormal postures while relaxing
  • Limping
  • Difficulty lying down or getting up
  • Excessive licking of a specific area
  • Trouble going up and down stairs
  • Inability to get into your vehicle
  • Trembling or shaking
  • They act depressed, such as they don’t wag their tail, or they have low appetite

If you notice any of these signs in your pet, it’s important to see a veterinarian to find out if your pet may benefit from treatments such as laser therapy. Our friendly, knowledgeable veterinary staff will be happy to answer your questions and address any of your concerns.
